This site is designed to provide students, teachers, parents, Engineering Partners, and Sponsors informed of the many happenings in the Stranahan Engineering program. Our ProgramThe Stranahan High School Engineering Magnet Program is an intensive four year program that is aimed at giving students real world design and research experience while preparing them for entrance into a College Level Engineering Program. Stranahan High School is located in Fort Lauderdale and attracts the top young minds in Broward County. During their four years at Stranahan students take three Engineering Research classes, two Design classes, and most will complete several Advanced Placement Science and Math courses.
Staff ProfilesThe instructors responsible for organizing the Engineering Program at Stranahan are Mr. Payne and Mr. Platt. They are also the Coordinators for the SECME Engineering Club, the Robotics Club, the and the Mathematics Competitions Club. Mr. Payne grew up in Broward County and graduated from Coconut Creek High School. He earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) in Worcester, Massachusetts. He later went on to earn a Masters degree in Math Education from Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida. Mr. Payne began teaching high school in 1996 at America Heritage and has been at Stranahan since 1998. Mr. Platt grew up in Hollywood, Florida. He went to the University of Florida for one year and then transferred to the University of Michigan. While at Michigan he earned a Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and then a Masters degree in Aerospace Engineering. Mr. Platt has been at Stranahan since 2000.
