(The Stranahan Teacher, Engineer, and Parent Partnership)

MINUTES:

·         The BEST Robotics presentations went well.  Students explained to the STEP Partners what they have been doing with the project.  The partners then asked questions and gave feedback.

·         BEST Mall Day - Sunday October 12^th  1pm – 4pm, Coral Ridge Mall

·         BEST Game Day – Saturday October 25^th, 9am-4pm, Stranahan High

·         Volunteers for Game Day.  Stranahan is running a concession stand during the BEST Game Day.  We need parents and engineer partners to help sell.  If you want to help email Mr. Payne at james.payne@browardschools.com and tell me what time you would like to work (Early, Mid-morning or afternoon) I will email out a final list when we get our volunteers.

AGENDA

Welcome and Introductions

1-         The BEST Robotics team student presentations

·         Rules – Explain the General Rules for BEST competition 2003, “Transfusion Confusion”

·         Construction / Design – Show robot & Explain design.  Answer questions from audience about design.  Demonstration of robot.

·         Panel Team – Describe their presentation for the panel competition.  Show story boards.

·         Display Team – Show display sketches. Describe how it relates to the team and competition themes.

·         Fundraising Team – Thank people for support.  Explain direction of fundraising campaign. 

MALL DAY – All teams show up and practice on the play field at the mall.

2-         VOLUNTEERS FOR GAME DAY (10/25/03) – We need to get volunteers to help man the concession stand during Game Day.  Decide how best to get people to sign up.  Email etc?  Hand out copies of list.

 

3-         SPONSORS – Today is deadline to get logos on shirts and water bottles.  We will take donations at any time and for any amount, but today is our print deadline for the shirts and bottles.

·         WaterWorks 2011 (CH2M Hill) – Platinum Sponsor ($500 ++)

·         Florida Engineering Society FES - Platinum Sponsor ($500 ++)

·         Motorola - Platinum Sponsor ($500 ++)

·         Car Max – Gold Sponsor ($250 - $499)

 

4-         US FIRST – Robotics project.  Application fee deadline 12/5/03 (TOTAL $5000) Obviously we need financial sponsors BUT as important are mentors.  Mentors need to donate 1 day a week to meet with and help the teams. Probably Monday 4-6pm.

·         Engineering design – person(s) who is mechanically inclined and can help with drive train design and / or structural design

·         Electronics- Design electrical systems. Knowledge of electrical controls servos, DC Motors, switches, pneumatics, hydraulics etc.

·         Programming – Controls programming in Basic Stamp and/or C. Robot controller is programmable and robot needs to run autonomously for 90 seconds.

·         Marketing – Fundraising, team theme, spirit, t-shirts etc.

·         Promotion – Press releases, flyers, posters, distribution, community relations

·         Team Leaders – Help focus teams. Work on teams with deadlines and project timelines.

 

5-         National Engineers Week 2004 - What are our plans? We need speakers/ presentations etc for after school presentations during the week.  We are planning an Engineering Day competition on a Saturday to begin or end Engineers week.
